How often should I service my AC?

Should I buy the biggest air conditioner I can afford?

If you get one that’s too small, it will work too hard to cool your home resulting in high energy costs. However, if you get one that’s too big, you’ll cool your home too quickly. As a result, your system will only run for short bursts, leading to a higher level of humidity (despite cooler temperatures).

How long should my new air conditioner last?

While different units and models will have different lifespans, an air conditioner should last you about 10-15 minutes. However, that’s only true provided that you take care of your investment with frequent maintenance and tune-ups. When your air conditioner reaches 10 years of use, you should schedule slightly more frequent maintenance calls-parts will begin to break down more frequently past the 12-year mark. Some higher-end models have parts that can last for 20-25 years with proper care, but this shouldn’t be expected for most units.

Is there preventative maintenance I can do myself?

Sure! If you’re fairly handy with tools, here are some things you can do on a regular basis to keep your AC humming along efficiently:

• Inspect the condensing unit outside
• Level the outdoor unit if necessary

I needed a new boiler and took me one month shopping and getting quotes because I wanted to make sure I chose the correct service company.  I have to say that I have absolutely zero to complain about A-solutes/ Gold Medal.  Instead, I was blown away with the level of attention to service and detail demonstrated by everyone with whom I interacted.  I give credit to the staff, but also to the company’s leadership because I am sure that the reason your employees operate at that level has something to do with the company’s mission. As a maintenance contractor, I have hired, as well as worked with- many plumbers in New Jersey. A-Absolute is by far the most capable and responsive plumber I have known in this state. Their staff is experienced in a wide range of plumbing issues. They have the equipment to get any job done in a timely way. Wonderful service. Very nice. But unfortunately they're not in business anymore. They're affiliated with Gold medal plumbing with whom I'm not happy with and will NEVER use again because of their unwillingness to replace a pipe that they broke. They chose to put some kind of boot on instead of replacing the small section of pipe they had to replace. I priced the pipe at home Depot and it was $3 and change. I have used them several times. One time we didn’t know how to put on the heat when we first got the house and the plumber came in and told us what to do step by step and how to maintain it. I called them last night because the boiling was leaking. My husband fixed it before they came. They always come the same day and are reliable.
